16 Feb “Snow Day” Takes on a Different Meaning for Water Crews

When ice and snow hit the mid-state, work for WHUD looks a little different. Some of the regular work like installing taps, pulling water samples from the field and replacing meters is put on hold. Instead, our crews have been clearing driveways so trucks can safely get in and out of our facilities. Meter techs are reading radio meters to protect them (getting in and out of the trucks is dangerous on a day like this) and the meters (they stay warmer with the lids sealed). Field techs are responding to frozen service lines. Our plant operators are keeping the water treatment plant running – every so often, they have to break up the ice in the basins. And others are pitching in where needed.
