Today is GIS Day, an annual event hosted by our GIS partner and global leader in geographic information systems (GIS), Esri. This day is designed to teach our communities about the power of GIS and the benefits it provides our communities and societies. Here at WHUD, we use GIS every single day to help locate assets, build smarter routes, manage workloads, analyze data, predict trends, and provide interactive mapping tools to our customers (things like our Outage Map, Service Area Map, Customer Service Hub and Customer Problem Reporter).
But this year isn’t like the years prior. As the world navigates the COVID-19 pandemic, we decided to try something a little different. We’re offering a virtual GIS Day experience for all of our local schools and students. It includes several videos, an interactive scavenger hunt, a crossword puzzle and a word search.
